Nanda Devi – world Heritage site and the one of the most
fascinating mountain area in the world is located in south eastern part
of Garhwal ( Uttaranchal
area) . To protect this
unique natural Himalayan
Heritage the area it was first declared
A sanctuary, then upgraded to National park in 1982 and later to stop all kind of tourist
& other activities as biosphere reserve in
1988.
This unique mountain area covering 630 sq. kms is endowed with
the biotic and physical torist resource of par excellence. The park is
encircled by a vast ring of lofty mountains giving it a shape of natural
fortress . Some of the important peaks in the area are Dungiri ( 7066
mts) , Changbang ( 6864 mts), Kalanka
(6932 Mts) , Rihsipahar ( 6992 Mts), NandaKhat (6611mts) , Maiktoli
(6303 Mts), Mrigthuni (6565mts) , Bethartoli
Himal ( 6352 Mts) ,Trishul I & II ( 7120 Mts and 6319 mts),
while Nanda East ( 7434 M0 and Nanda Devi ( 7817 Mts) are prominent
peaks in the area.
The vast tracts of the Himalayan Meadows are competed with a
variety of high altitude plants of incense and medicinal values,
present a most fascinating spectrum while in full blossom. These
forested areas harbor good deal of high altitude Fauna specially the
species of mammals , birds and butterflies.
The area was first explored by W.M Grahm in 1883, and brought
to lime light by missionary & mountaineer T.G. Longstaff
1907 , Eric Shipton and W. Tilman in
1934 . Once brought to lime light the area was most fascinating
destination in seventies for the mountaineers from world over.
Flora: Due to the distinctive meteorological values enjoyed by
the area offers a unique spectrum of flowering herbs, incense &
medical plants. One can encounter easily species of
rare high altitude Himalayan flora e.g primula, sausaurea,
aconitum etc.
Fauna: The area abounds good deal of high altitude Himalayan
fauna. One can encounter Bharal, Tahr, Goral, Musk deer, snow leopard,
black bear, Indian porcupine and many more.
Approach : At a distance of 26 kms from Joshimath, on
Joshimath Malari road lata
serves as the best entry point to the area. It is a typical tribal
village of “Tolchas” situated near the left bank of Dhalui river.
The Trek: The entire trek goes through thick forests and alpine meadows surrounded by
glacial torrents, water falls , hillocks , color full boulders, moraines
, steep gorges , overhanging cliffs, and roaring rivers.
Closed for tourist activities in early 80’s , this
area undoubtedly worlds richest treasure house of natural tourist
assets , otherwise strategically a vulnerable area has now been again
opened for tourist.
One can trek up to Dharasi pass and Dibrugeta from July 2003
onwards, however the number of trekkers/ naturalists/scientists
will be restricted to maximum 500 in one year.
After long awaited decision of opening the area has given
chance to trekkers to do once a life trek .

Itinerary
DAY
01. ARRIVE RISHIKESH
Arrive Haridwar / Rishikesh . Met upon arrival and
transfer to hotel . Evening
visit the Ghat’s s to encounter evening Ghat life as well as special
Arti “The Prayer dedicated to Goddess Ganges” ”
the town of ashrams and temples, Ghats and pilgrims, mountains
and the holy Ganges. When global orange sun suspended, waits low amid
the red/yellow streaked horizon, then all these combine to give this
town a very special evening. The temple bells roar, priests enchant
mantras. Immersed in sublimation stand
the pilgrims. Cupped
leaves, with saffron marigold
petals and a small candle flame, flickering ride the current of
water of wisdom. Suddenly the sky darkens, spreading a blanket of
stillness. Everything stops, except the sound of current, which has just
sunk the tiny flames of cupped leaves, few minutes back. After
experiencing above we trace ours steps back to the hotel.

DAY 02. Rishikesh
to Joshimath DRIVE : 264
km). Overnight in hotel.
Morning after breakfast drive
to Joshimath . Enroute stop at Devprayag , an ancient town situated
at the beginning of the Ganga. Overnight hotel in Joshimath..

Day 03 to day 09 .trek from Joshimath to joshimath
( Altitude 2329 mts).
DAY
10. JOSHIAMTH TO RISHIKESH DRIVE
10 HRS. OVERNIGHT HOTEL
Morning after breakfast drive to Rishikesh. Arrive
Rishkesh and transfer to hotel for Dinner & overnight stay.
DAY 11.
RISHIKESH /ONWARD DESTINATION
